First Annual Girls Weekend

Hi friends!,

This weekend my girlfriends and I went on our First Annual Girls Trip! We have been friends for many years now but with the exception of a bachelorette weekend in Key West we have never taken a trip just us girls. Let me tell you, it was MUCH needed!

We decided that St. Augustine would be the perfect spot for us since it’s not too far of a drive from Orlando. My girlfriend Liz and I wanted to stay for 2 nights while the other girls could only commit to one at this time (mom life!). So Liz and I headed up Friday afternoon, checked into our hotel, and then made our way out to do a little exploring. We did our own personal mini tour of the gorgeous Flagler College. Seriously, beautiful! We had lunch at Scarlett O’Hara’s where we sat on the front porch and enjoyed such a talented singer while cooling off and fueling up! We wandered down to Sangria’sFlagler College next for what else?! Sangria! Must say, we were a tad underwhelmed with the sangria. We were expecting the best sangria of our lives with that being the very name of the bar and all, but the balcony over looking St. George Street and the live music made up for what our sangria was lacking.

After a couple hours downtown back at the hotel we ventured back out for some drinks and more live music at this adorable little spot called Taberna Del Caballo. Once we finished our drinks, Liz and I headed over to the highly recommended Prohibition Kitchen. And let me just say, we totally get why this place was on everyone’s list!! We got lucky and they sat us in a booth right in front of the stage. The food was delicious (you absolutely have to try the Brussels cesar, even if you don’t like brussel sprouts), the drinks were strong, and the band was more than we could have wished for! We meant to continue exploring what the city had to offer but the band pulled us in so well that we pretty much shut the place down.

Saturday morning we were pumped for the arrival of our three other friends: Brittany (who is a total trooper since she’s pregnant), Kelly, and Becky. We headed over to breakfast at the Blue Hen. The place is tinyyyyy but the food is amazing! Personally, I don’t like bread unless it involves a sandwich, a pizza, or I can dip it into something, but their brioche bun that my breakfast sandwich was served on was melt in your mouth fantastic! I could have ate a dozen of those with nothing else on it. Really! I cant forget to mention their mimosas… They do traditional oj or watermelon. I went the watermelon route and boy am I glad that I did. It’s fresh squeezed watermelon with a little bit of lime. It was refreshing and you forget you’re even drinking alcohol (which can be dangerous as we all know).

After brunch we headed back to the hotel to hit up the pool. It was the perfect few hours with a can of Truly in hand while we splashed around in the water staying cool from that Florida summer heat! To get ready for dinner we all gathered up in one room to do our hair and listen to music, you don’t realize how much you miss this simple act that was a weekend norm in your early twenties until you get to re-live it. We hopped in our uber and headed to the Ice Plant which is the craft cocktail bar at the St. Augustine Distillery. We had one cocktail (mocktail for the preggers) and took one thousand selfies before moving on to dinner. We ate at A1A Works with an amazing view of the water from our balcony table. Unfortunately, our service left something to desire (like a lot) but we were out and enjoying each others company! Now some of us had been out late that night before and were a bit tired, some of us were pregnant and tired, and the rest of us were just straight ready to party. So we compromised. We went to another cute little bar, the Odd Bird, and sat out on the patio for yet more live music (can you tell we really enjoy music?) before wrapping up the night. We got back to the hotel around 11pm and while I realize we may have to pace ourselves a little better in our old(er) age if we wanna hang later into the evening, I would still say it was a successful first annual girls weekend!

I’m so lucky to have such great and lasting friendships with these girls. I hope that you all have people you can count on for the fun times and the hard times as well!

I can’t lie though, as much as fun as I had I simply could not wait to get back home and see my hubs!!!

I hope y’all had a wonderful weekend.

Alohomora,

-Ash
