I haven’t watched the VMA’s in years. In fact, I haven’t watched any award show in years. I just don’t find them interesting. But one of the great things about technology is that we are able to still see performances from those award shows after the fact. I couldn’t be more grateful for that ability than I am right now. Today as I was scrolling through my different social media pages I saw a couple friends of mine post on about one of last nights performances from MTV’s VMA’s. The performance was a song titled “1-800-273-8255′ (which is the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline) and it was absolutely beautiful and POWERFUL.
Now, I don’t listen to very much rap music except when TJ forces it upon me in the car so I don’t really know who Logic or Khalid are. I’m not even sure who Alessia Cara is. All I know is that Alessia has a fantastic voice and all three of them have a new fan in me. They were joined on stage by suicide attempt survivors and of course my eyes filled with tears. There’s not much to say other than WELL DONE!!! MTV, Logic, Khalid, and Alessia Cara, it is so nice to see mental health awareness brought to such a big platform. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
If you haven’t already seen the performance of “1-800-273-8255” I’m including the link here
Like the song says, “I just want you to live”.
